Teaser Tuesdays #20

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My Teaser:The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard
“A hard thing it is,” said Kane somberly, “to sentence a man to death in cold blood and in such a manner as I have in mind, but you must die that others may live — and God knoweth you deserve to die.”
– pg 15, “Skulls in the Stars” from The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard (illustrated throughout by Gary Gianni)

I would apologize for temporarily turning Teaser Tuesdays into Robert Ervin Howard Appreciation Tuesdays… only I’m not sorry at all.

Instead, I am so glad I started reading his stories. I am honestly and endlessly amazed by Howard’s imagination and storytelling ability. I really wish I could figure out why it took me so long to discover him, but no matter. I am happy that I did and also pleased to find that I love the Solomon Kane stories as much as the ones about Conan. Perhaps a little bit more so because Solomon Kane is sort of the Puritan great-great-grandfather of characters like Roland Deschain, Frank Castle, and John Constantine.

Anyway… What are your Tuesday reads? If you have any Teasers, feel free to link me to them in a comment!

And if you’re a wee bit tired of hearing me go on and on about Robert E. Howard and want to read these stories for yourself? Head on over to Project Gutenberg Australia, where all of his works are available for free online reading!

About April

I'm a librarian, reader, and writer whose main goal in life is to be able to swim in books the way Scrooge McDuck swims in money. Although my reading choices will always be wildly eclectic and I never plan on leaving any genre unexplored, my favorite reads tend to be Fantasy, Young Adult, Science Fiction, Gay Romance, or Historical Fiction. This teaser is a bit scary and cold.Looks like a read

  2. Ooh, grim. Great teaser. Thanks for sharing. If you get a chance, mine is here.

    • Kane’s a bit dangerous but only if you’ve done something bad like the guy in the story. And really the guy gets what’s owned to him. It’s sort of the theme with Solomon Kane stories.

  3. Jennifer says:

That does not sound too good for the person sentenced to die.
